INTRODUCTION - 

Indian art known for its colours and disparity thus the Indian culture known for its traditional art, we cannot separate both from each other.  It is evident that Indian art consists of various art forms at present days, however in ancient period the Indian art had been famous for different kind of sculptures, for that various kind of stones, metal and mixture of metals were used to make a variety of sculptures in a range of Indian art styles. Later the Indian artists developed different painting styles in different regions, influenced by the cultural and religious practice of people of India. Most of the art developed by the Indian artists were based on religious subjects, and was very successful in that period even though maximum number of art pieces sold in India is based on religious topics till date.  And yes music and dance are also part of Indian art so we cannot ignore them.

MEANING OF INDIAN ART - All the art that is originated, developed or practiced within the geographical boundaries of the country is ‘Indian Art’. Earlier, the art forms developed and practiced used to have intricate patterns and an exaggerated depiction of the features and curves of the human bodies. Now, many Indian art forms have got a bit revamped and the art forms that are popular worldwide have now been adopted by the artists of India.

Indian art includes folk and tribal paintings of India, sculptures, handicrafts, jewellery, statues and much more. Names like Madhubani, Gond, Kalamari, Tanjore, Warli, and Pattachitra instantly come to the brain chords of folks whenever any discussion about Indian art comes up. Wall painting, temple art, miniature paintings are also an integral part of Indian art and its evolution over time

MORYA ART - 

Mauryan art is the art produced during the period of the Mauryan Empire, which was the first empire to rule over most of the Indian subcontinent, between 322 and 185 BCE. It represented an important transition in Indian art from use of wood to stone. It was a royal art patronized by Mauryan kings especially Ashoka. Pillars, Stupas, caves are the most prominent survivals.

ART OF GUPTA PERIOD - 

Gupta art is the art of the Gupta Empire, which ruled most of northern India, with its peak between about 300 and 480 CE, surviving in much reduced form until c. 550. The Gupta period is generally regarded as a classic peak and golden age of North Indian art for all the major religious groups.

FOLK ART - 

FOLK ART is an expression of the world’s traditional cultures. FOLK ART is rooted in traditions that come from community and culture – expressing cultural identity by conveying shared community values and aesthetics. FOLK ART encompasses a range of utilitarian and decorative media, including cloth, wood, paper, clay, metal and more. FOLK ART is made by individuals whose creative skills convey their community’s authentic cultural identity, rather than an individual or idiosyncratic artistic identity. FOLK ARTISTS traditionally learn skills and techniques through apprenticeships in informal community settings, though they may also be formally educated.

Art of ancient Egypt - 

Ancient Egyptian art refers to art produced in ancient Egypt between the 6th millennium BC and the 4th century AD, spanning from Prehistoric Egypt until the Christianization of Roman Egypt. It includes paintings, sculptures, drawings on papyrus, faience, jewelry, ivories, architecture, and other art media.

Mughal painting - 

Mughal painting is a particular style of South Asian, particularly North Indian (more specifically, modern day India and Pakistan), painting confined to miniatures either as book illustrations or as single works to be kept in albums (muraqqa). It emerged from Persian miniature painting (itself partly of Chinese origin) and developed in the court of the Mughal Empire of the 16th to 18th centuries. Battles, legendary stories, hunting scenes, wildlife, royal life, mythology, as well as other subjects have all been frequently depicted in paintings

CONCLUSION - 

As you can see from the above, the world of art is a highly complex entity, not only in terms of its multiplicity of forms and types, but also in terms of its historical and cultural roots. Therefore a simple definition, or even a broad consensus as to what can be labelled art, is likely to prove highly elusive.
